Gamma Tau: Philanthropy
Philanthropy

Philanthropy is an integral part of the Gamma Tau chapter and is a major focal point every semester for the brothers and pledges of the house. Pledges are required to donate ten individual hours, along with a pledge class philanthropy project as well. The brothers of the Gamma Tau chapter hold philanthropy in highest regard and strive every semester to make not only the Georgia Tech community, but the Atlanta community as well, a better place.

Every fall break, the brothers and pledges of the Gamma Tau chapter, travel and partake in a Habitat for Humanity Build. This past fall, the destination was to West Palm Beach, Florida. Throughout the three-day trip, 34 brothers and pledges attended, with the total man hours totaling over 4000. This opportunity offered a break from class, along with a great chance to help the local community as well. This trip will surely benefit those of Palm Beach County for years to come.

During each fall and spring semester, Gamma Tau teams up with MOVE, to host blood drives sponsored by the Red Cross. This past fall and spring, the brothers and pledges gave a total of nearly 500 hours between tabling and working at the drive. The continued enthusiasm resulted in the most recent drive hitting nearly 100% of the goal. Continuous excellent turnout by the members of Gamma Tau has been a staple for years and will be for years to come.

On Thanksgiving weekend, the members of Gamma Tau, along with the members of Kappa Deuteron, participate in the Run For The Kids. This event begins at the home site of the Georgia-Georgia Tech football game. Members take turns running while handing off a football until one chapter meets the other halfway between Atlanta and Athens. The home chapter then has members take turns running until the football has made its way to the final destination. Last fall over 20 brothers from Gamma Tau participated and this event will only grow in participation.

This spring, three brothers of Gamma Tau participated on a mission trip to Estonia through College Ministry Connections. This visit was the second trip for brother Souther to Estonia. They visited the University of Tartu and worked with locals for a week. Through this program, each brother logged over 220 hours each and served the community in a grand spectrum of manners.

Through the efforts of the brothers and pledges of the Gamma Tau chapter, the aforementioned events along with many others are possible. The philanthropy events in which Gamma Tau participates varies through the local, state and international communities. In the years to come, the philanthropy program of Gamma Tau will continue to excel and further the long-standing tradition of excellence of which we have already attained.

Sincerely,
George Ewing & Morgan Doty
